Austin Meyermann speaks at Generation Connect's event
Generation Connect, a program of the Frederick County Chamber of Commercedesigned for young professionals, organized a Brunch & Learn event addressing the topic of Career Development and Advancement. The event took place on Tuesday, May 2nd, at Mount St. Mary's Frederick campus. Attendees started arriving around 11:30 am for networking and delicious brunch by the Renaissance Chef catering company.
Austin Meyermann, TalentCMO's Founder and CEO, started the panel by speaking on the topic of “Waiting for the Perfect Job and How it Could Be Hurting Your Career.” He focused on the "why" behind your work, on finding the purpose, and setting goals. Apart from Austin, there were two other panelists sharing important advice for career development and advancement. Betsy Day, Training and OD Specialist at FMH, spoke about "The Importance of Being a Lifelong Learner in Your Professional Development." She shared her personal experiences and left the attendees with a list of resources which can help them to start working on their career today. Tammy Feaster, Owner and VP of Administration at Spherion Staffing explained the importance of being marketable and "soaking dry" your supervisors of all knowledge and expertise. Her topic was "Why Should I Stay in my Job and Not Hop in the Early Years of my Career."
During Q&A session, attendees had a chance to ask specific questions, seek for advice, and share their stories. The event was a great way to start the conversation about ways to develop yourself if your company does not have funds or does not provide training opportunities. Also, it encouraged young professionals to seek out knowledge on their own and develop their skills and expertise in the area of their interest.
