The #1 Thing Your Recruiting Strategy May be Missing

Are you “marketing” your company and jobs to talent using social?

In 2017, 81% of the U.S. population uses social networking and by 2020, 2.95 billion users globally are expected to be on social media. That is a lot of talent in one place and represents an incredible opportunity to build your employer brand, introduce jobs, and engage talent.

Social media recruiting works by building your employer brand which helps to create a warmer relationship with prospective talent. Companies with a strong employer brand receive more, and 50% better candidates, than companies with a weak or unknown brand.

You might ask, how to build an employer brand though?

First step is to build your careers page that authentically reflects who you are and what type of culture you embody as a company. Careers pages can be added to your already existing corporate website or you can build a separate one from scratch using a template host such as Squarespace

Once you’ve built your careers page, make sure to link the page to your social media accounts. Think about it for a second. The first thing an HR Manager does when he/she receives a resume from a candidate is to search them on Google and social media. Same goes for candidates applying to a company. The first thing they will do is search your company on Google, check your activity on social media, and look for other ways to learn more about your company. Use this to your advantage and recruit via social media.

Third, and a very important step when using social media for recruitment, is to keep two things in mind: be active and post original content. You don’t have to post every single day; 1-2 times a week could be your starting point. Share original content about your company, feature employees and special achievements, but don’t oversell your company with quotes and stock photos. Instead, showcase your employees the way they are (see sample photos for TalentCMO social media posts below).

You can also have an employee “take-over” day when your employees post stories on Instagram, or tweet their day, or post updates on Facebook. It doesn’t get more authentic than that! Keep in mind is that you don’t have to be on every single platform. If Facebook has the audience you would like to reach, you can have only this account. Same goes for all other accounts.
